Take your Language Proficiency Certification Test!
129

The Language Proficiency Certification is a 30-minute video test with a live evaluator. Through a series of carefully designed questions, this test will determine a candidate's ability to converse in the language being tested. The candidate is asked a series of questions that gradually increase in complexity, requiring the candidate to perform various spoken tasks. The evaluator will rate how well a candidate can speak the language using a proficiency scale of 1-12.

Washington State Substitute Senate Bill 6157 provides for hiring preference points based on language proficiency. These points include 5% for persons who have obtained full professional proficiency or who are completely fluent as a native speaker in one language other than English and 10% for persons who have obtained full professional proficiency or who are completely fluent as a native speaker in two or more languages other than English. On a 1-12 scale, this is considered a proficiency score of 9 or higher.

PLEASE NOTE: The decision to apply preference points for language proficiency is at the agencies' discretion. We highly recommend researching whether the agencies you are applying to will accept these preference points BEFORE purchasing a certification test.

After you purchase a test on the PST website, you will receive an email from ALTA Language Services asking you to schedule. You will have 30 days from receiving this email to schedule your test. Testing is available Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. ET to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
