Department Information

The City of Yelm Police Department operates out of the "Public Safety Building". We are situated in beautiful downtown Yelm, WA. We currently operate with 17 full-time Commissioned Officers, 2 Office Personnel. Current structure is the Police Chief, Assistant Police Chief, (2) Patrol Sergeants, (1) Detective/Sgt., (3)School Resource Officers and 9 Patrol Officers.

The eligibility list is a continuous listing and maintained as scores are received from PST with oral board interviews conducted on an as-needed basis. Vacancies are filled by Civil Service "rule of three" with the top three candidates forwarded to the appointing authority for background investigation & selection as vacancies occur.

Salary Information

7 Step salary Schedule. 74,796.00 - 89,328.00 for current F.O.P. Contract in effect through 2024. Additional 5% for Detective Pay, $150.00 shift differential premium for evening shifts, instructor premium, 5% FTO premium, $500.00 pay per year for fitness incentive and longevity pay after 5 years from 2.0% to 5.5%. Employees are also eligible to receive additional educational incentive pay: 2.0% premium for AA/As degree,; 4.0% premium for BA/BS degree.

Benefit Information

Medical for employee and for dependents, 13 paid holidays per year, sick leave accrued at 8 hours per month, Vacation accrual begins at 96 hours per year and tops out at 200 hours per year.
