Important Information

Spokane County Fire District 8 is recruiting candidates for one (1) immediate Career Firefighter/EMT-B opening. Estimated starting date for this position is March 10, 2025. 

Applications and Personal History Statements must be completed and posted to the candidates PST profile no later than 16:00 on January 14, 2025. Initial interviews will be conducted on January 21, 2025. Fire Chief interviews will be conducted on January 28, 2025. Applicants will be notified by January 17th, 2025 if they are invited for an interview. 

Application process through Public Safety Testing shall include:

  • Completed PST Application.
  • Current CPAT.
  • Completed Personal History Statement
  • Veterans Preference Points Form (if applicable).
  • Applications must be completed and posted to the candidates PST profile no later than 16:00 on June 26, 2024.

The hiring process shall consist of the following steps:

  • Application packet review.
  • Panel interview and Paramedic skills evaluation as applicable. January 21st, 2025
  • Chief interview. January 28th, 2025
  • Medical exam and drug screen.
  • Background check and suitability assessment

Spokane County Fire District 8 serves the citizens of Spokane County south of the City of Spokane and the City of Spokane Valley.

The District provides services to the unincorporated areas of Latah Valley, Moran Prairie, Valleyford, Ponderosa, Morningside and Saltese. Each of these neighborhoods make up a diverse land use of residential, light commercial, agricultural and multi-unit dwellings.

The area offers a scenic and family­ friendly community with numerous recreational opportunities, including parks, community pools and open hiking spaces. The centennial trail is near the district and offers walking and biking opportunities. We are also within forty-five (45) minutes of several ski areas, lakes and rivers. The area boasts a great mix of urban and rural living for year-round enjoyment.

Department Information

Spokane County Fire District 8 provides a full range of services that include fire suppression, emergency medical services, fire prevention, education and investigation, and associated support and maintenance services to our 23,917 citizens in a 110 square mile area in south Spokane County. SCFD8 members responded to 4,248 incidents in 2022 from the District's four fire stations located in the Moran, Valleyford, Ponderosa, and Saltese areas. Each station is staffed twenty-four hours a day with a combination of career, and volunteer personnel.

We are comprised of approximately fifty (50) Full-time employees and fifteen (15) volunteer members who are governed by a three (3) member elected board of Fire Commissioners. The administrative staff is comprised of dedicated and collaborative members of the organization to include the Fire Chief, Assistant Fire Chief, Finance Manager, Human Resources Manager and Office Specialist.

Hiring Status

The deadline to test for the next hiring cycle is January 14, 2025.

Spokane County Fire District 8 is recruiting candidates for one (1) immediate Career Firefighter/EMT-B opening. Estimated starting date for this position is March 10, 2025. Candidates with a passing written test score (70%) will have their application and Personal History Statement reviewed. Selected candidates will be invited via phone call to a Panel Interview. Application and Personal History Statement review does not guarantee an invite to the Panel Interview.

Applications and Personal History Statements must be completed and posted to the candidates PST profile no later than 16:00 on January 14, 2025. CPAT certification and Veterans Preference Points Form must be uploaded to Personal History Statement to be considered.

Initial interviews will be conducted on January 21, 2025. Fire Chief interviews will be conducted on January 28, 2025.

Salary Information

All wages and benefits are negotiated by Spokane County Fire District 8 Firefighters IAFF Local 3711. The current contract expires December 31, 2024. Local 3711 is negotiating a new contract, and salary will be increased upon finalization

Step A Firefighter/EMT salary is $77,045 with a recruit earning 80% of this wage, and progressing up to full Step A salary by successful completion of the initial six months of training.
