Community Information

The City of Sequim and the surrounding Sequim-Dungeness Valley is located on the Strait of Juan de Fuca on the north coast of Washington State. The valley is the gateway to the Olympic Peninsula and its numerous tourist attractions. Sequim is approximately two hours from Seattle, Tacoma, or Olympia. The population for Sequim is 7,800. Approximately 30,000 of the County's 72,500 residents live in the valley. These residents live in the immediate Sequim area and come to our community to shop, and use City facilities and services. In addition to our resident population, the peninsula has an influx of visitors from throughout the United States, Canada, and other countries. Each year, over 400,000 persons and vehicles use the ferry system between our neighbor City of Port Angeles and Victoria B.C. Many of these visitors and travelers require assistance from the Police Department.

Department Information

The Sequim Police Department is a full service general authority law enforcement agency accredited by the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs. The department consists of 25 employees divided into four sections; Administration, Support Services, Operations, and Investigations.

These sections provide police services in the form of command, patrol, criminal investigations, narcotics investigations, records management, property and evidence management, a School Resource Officer (SRO) program, K-9, code enforcement, a wide range of instructor level specialties, and management of a large volunteer component.

The Police Department operates out of a specifically designed facility inside the Sequim Civic Center, built in 2015. Officers are assigned state-of-the-art equipment including vehicles in a liberal replacement program, lethal and non-lethal weaponry, in-car computers, radar, night vision, as well as complete uniforms and personal equipment. Patrol officers work a four/ten-hour shift schedule with three days off, and a shift rotation that allows for all officers to experience at least partial weekends off for four months of the year.

The Police Department enjoys a great relationship with the community and other local law enforcement agencies. Our members take pride in the high level of professional service we are able to provide our community. Our mantra is "Personal Attention to our Community".
