The San Juan County Sheriff's Office will continue to use our existing eligibility list until the scores expire during the transition to the new LEO examination. This means that, if you have already completed your written examination and are awaiting next steps, your score will be valid through its expiration date. Candidates who are interested in applying for our agency using the new examination will also have their scores accepted.

Department Information

The Sheriff of San Juan County maintains his office, the E-911 Communications Center and jail facility at the San Juan County Courthouse complex in Friday Harbor. The Undersheriff, Chief Civil Deputy, Chief Criminal Deputy, two detectives, two corrections deputies, one courthouse security deputy, eight patrol deputies, eleven E-911 Communications Operators, and two clerks work out of this office. The remainder of the thirty-five employees are assigned to Districts 2 and 3; Orcas Island, District 2, has the second largest concentration of islanders with a population of over 4,000. There are five patrol deputies and one sergeant assigned to this district. Lopez Island, District 3, has three patrol deputies and one sergeant.

Salary Information

Entry-Level Sheriff's Deputies at San Juan County will receive a monthly salary of $7,262.52, or $87,150.24 annually in 2025. Find the full 2025 Deputy Pay Schedule on San Juan County's website. 

There is a pay incentive for education, foreign language, and physical fitness.
