RiverCom is located in central Washington and is surrounded by a very diverse geographical area. The two major industries in the area are agriculture and tourism. The region has developed into an all-season, year-round outdoor recreation destination. The region's geographical features, tourism, and agriculture all contribute unique challenges in providing 911 and emergency services to the area.

Department Information

RiverCom is a multi-jurisdictional Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) located in Wenatchee, Washington that serves Chelan and Douglas counties.  RiverCom operates twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week processing emergency 911 and non-emergency calls-for-service and dispatching twenty-two (2) law, fire, and emergency medical public safety agencies within Chelan and Douglas counties.  RiverCom’s range of service covers approximately 4,750 square miles - from Stevens Pass to Blewett Pass and from Grand Coulee Dam to Crescent Bar and serves a population of about 125,500 residents.

Hiring Status

RIVERCOM 911 - Telecommunicator has 10 vacancies.

RiverCom maintains a list of job candidates as scores are received from Public Safety Testing.  Selected candidates receive an invitation to apply for the position of Telecommunicator.  Oral board interviews are conducted on either an as-needed basis and as positions become available or to establish a hiring list. As positions become available, candidates must successfully complete the pre-employment process before the start of employment.

RiverCom is accepting lateral candidates for the Telecommunicator position. A lateral candidate is an individual who has previous full-time dispatch experience with a 911 Communication Center in the areas of Law, Fire, and EMS, and they have not been away from dispatching for more than two years. (Interest individuals do not need to take a PST through Public Safety Testing. Please Contact RiverCom directly to apply for the position as a lateral) 

Even after positions have been filled, RiverCom will continue to accept testing scores and conduct interviews for the purpose of establishing a Hiring Eligibility List.  Such candidates will remain on the list for a period of one (1) year from the date of their interview.  RiverCom will utilize the Hiring Eligibility List for hiring purposes as positions become available.

Salary Information

Effective, January 1, 2024:

Monthly Salary: $4,726 - $6,300; salary is based on position's Wage Scale from Entry-level to include Longevity and shift premiums.

All compensation follows the RiverCom and Teamsters Local 760 Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Overtime is earned for hours worked that exceed 40 hours per work week. Employee may elect to receive compensatory time in lieu of paid overtime. Employees are paid 2x Holiday Pay for all holidays worked.

Paid Annual Leave (Annual Leave accrual is based on a step scale based on years of service; new employees earn 8 hours of Annual Leave per month; may carry-over up to 280 hours of Annual Leave from one calendar year to the next)

Paid Sick Leave (Employee earns 8 hours per month and can carry-over up to 960 hours from one calendar year to the next)

The typing test is a critical component of your written test score and you are required to complete the online typing test within 90 days (before or after) your written exam. You will be allowed four (4) attempts at the typing test every seven (7) days and are responsible for selecting the score that you want PST to forward to the agencies you have applied with.

30 WPM; 85% Accuracy

Minimum Age Applicant must be at least 18 years of age.
Citizenship Applicant must be a U.S. citizen, or possess a Permanent Resident Card.
High School Grad/ GED Applicant must have a High School Diploma, or have received a G.E.D.
Driver's License Required Applicant must possess a valid Driver's License issued by current State of residence.
Ability to Read, Speak & Write the English Language Applicant must be able to clearly and fluently communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
Vision Requirements Applicant be able to see clearly with 20/20 vision corrected while viewing color-coded/prioritized computer screens and under artificial lighting.
