Community Information

The City of Pacific is located conveniently between Seattle and Tacoma and borders major transportation routes like Highway 167, Highway 18, and is near Interstates 5, 405, and 90. The City was incorporated in 1909, covers 2.4 square miles in both King and Pierce Counties, and is home to over 6,700 residents. The city hosts Alpec Elementary School and a King County Public Library branch. The City’s south end is the business center of the community, with a mix of light industrial, warehouses, and retail. The northern part of the city is primarily residential with a mix of single family homes and multi-family apartments. With the White River running through the east end of town and Mount Rainier as a backdrop, the City of Pacific maintains a small town feel. The city hosts many activities throughout the year including Pacific Days, a Kids’ Bike Rodeo, Public Safety Open House, community holiday events, and others.


The Pacific Northwest is a great place to work and live. Pacific is located midway between Seattle and Tacoma along multiple major transportation routes. This makes us a short drive from Seattle and Tacoma’s restaurants, nightlife, sports venues, and other attractions. The city is convenient to ski resorts and national parks like Mount Rainier, Mount St. Helens, and others. The White River flows through the east end of town and we are near the Puyallup River, Puget Sound, and a host of lakes for fishing or other water sports. The area is seeing commercial and housing growth and offers excellent opportunities for living the lifestyle you want.

Department Information

The Pacific Police Department’s mission is to make the City of Pacific a safe place to live, work, and play. Our external vision for the department is to be the standard of excellence in small-city policing, and to be seen by our community as a proactive, progressive, and professional organization. Internally, our vision is that our employees believe the Pacific Police Department is a great place to work. We value community and employee input, and as a small agency we enjoy the ability all employees have to make a difference here.


The Department has 13 full-time and 1 part-time employee, along with a Reserve Police Officer program. Our team includes the Chief, a Lieutenant, two Sergeants, a Detective, seven Police Officers, one Police Specialist/Evidence Technician, and one part-time Police Specialist. The department responds to an average of approximately 8,000 calls for service each year. Officers participate in quarterly firearms training, annual driver training and will soon begin recurring defensive tactics training with neighboring agencies.


The Department is a member of the Coalition of Small Police Agencies and assigns officers as investigators to the Coalition’s Major Crimes Task Force. Officers are assigned take-home cars and uniforms are provided by the department.

The eligibility list is a continuous listing and maintained as scores are received from PST with oral board interviews conducted on an as-needed basis. Vacancies are filled by Civil Service "rule of five" with the top five candidates forwarded to the appointing authority for background investigation & selection as vacancies occur.

Salary Information

Police Officer Salary range: $5,266 - $7,037 per month plus benefits.

Education Incentive: 2% Associates Degree; 4% Bachelor’s Degree

Benefit Information

City pays 95% of medical and dental premiums. Employee cost not to exceed $100 per month
