Community Information

Mukilteo is a predominately residential community of 6.3 square miles located 27 miles north of Seattle and adjacent to the City of Everett, and Puget Sound. We are bound by water on the north and west and by Paine Field Airport on the east. Paine Field Airport is a general aviation airport and home to the Boeing Company's Everett Commercial Aircraft Facility. Mukilteo is the home to the historic 1906 Mukilteo Light Station and has amenities including quaint shopping areas, restaurants, financial institutions and several parks and open spaces for recreational opportunities.

Department Information

The Police Department provides services for the protection of persons and property. These activities include general law enforcement, criminal investigations, animal control, and emergency service coordination and support. The Department includes 1 Chief, 1 Commander, 5 Sergeants, 4 Corporals, 12 Officers, 3 Detectives, 1 Community Service Officer, 2 Community Service Officer-Rangers, and 4 Support Services staff.

Specialty unit assignments include: Crime Prevention, Traffic, Detectives, Administrative Coordinator and Corporals. Collateral duties include: Rangemaster/Armorer, FTO, Bicycle Patrol, Recruiting/Hiring, Public Information Officer, Regional Intelligence Group, and Quartermaster. We have officers certified as instructors in the following areas: EVOC , Less Lethal, OC, Taser, Firearms, Field Training Officer, Criminal Law, and Defensive Tactics.

Hiring Status

Mukilteo Police Department - Police Officer has 3 vacancies.

Hiring process - The City accepts applications through Public Safety Testing continuously. When there is a vacancy, all scores are collected from Public Safety Testing since the last testing set and the top scores are invited to apply via the City's application tracking system. Oral boards will be scheduled from that list and then an eligibility list will be created.

Eligible Lists are established and certified by the Civil Service Commission. The top five candidates are referred to the Chief for an interview and selection. As candidates withdraw or are disqualified, the next candidate on the list is considered. This results in the Chief having up to five candidates to chose from.

Hiring classifications: Entry (no Basic Law Enforcement Academy and no experience required)

2022 wages $6,017.17 - 7,769.70 monthly

Longevity:
