Moses Lake Fire Department is looking for motivated team players, who take pride in their work, and want to work in a progressive minded department that is rapidly evolving from our "small town" roots into a modern, well equipped, and well-trained fire department. MLFD is currently working to establish a Firefighter eligibility list for 2024-2025.

Community Information

The City of Moses Lake is located in central Grant County with a population of approximately 26,440. Moses Lake Fire has a rich history of service to a growing Moses Lake and offers an 'All Hazards' response, including comprehensive fire, emergency medical services, and rescue services such as water, ice, and technical rescue in a diverse service area which includes residential, commercial, industrial, and outdoor recreation areas.
The MLFD provides a response and prevention solution for the diverse geography of the city encompassing 23 square miles of land and water areas. 

Moses Lake Firefighters have bravely and successfully confronted hazards of our growing city and continue to mitigate complex life safety problems through risk management, aggressive fire attack, and rescue philosophy. Moses Lake is centrally located along I-90 and is only one hour from Spokane and Tri-Cities. Grant County has some of the best recreational activities in the state such as hunting, fishing and boating and boasts about its 300 days of sunshine each year and seldom a harsh winter.

Department Information

Moses Lake Fire operates on a 48/96 three platoon schedule with 15 Kelly days in a calendar year.  

Moses Lake Fire provides a full range of emergency response services including Trama Verified Advanced Life Support Ambulance Service, Fire Suppression, Fire Prevention, Fire Investigations, Hazardous Materials Response, and certified rescue team. MLFD operates from two stations and is a fully career agency with 46 members in the operations division and 9 administrative / prevention staff members. 

MLFD operations staff are represented by Moses Lake Professional Firefighters, IAFF Local 1258.


Job Description

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  •  Certified as an Emergency Medical Technician (B) by the Washington Department of Health.
  •  Possess and maintain a current, valid Washington drivers license. Routine drivers abstract checks are required for this position.
  •  Maintain certification in Emergency Vehicle Incident Prevention.
  •  Maintain all required certifications for the step currently in.
  •  Drive, operate, and care for assigned apparatus / vehicle.
  •  Maintain, clean, and care for assigned station, vehicle, and all assigned equipment.
  •  Participate or assist in emergency and non-emergency operations as may be required, relating to fire, emergency medical, hazardous materials, rescue, and other related services.
  •  Participate in department assigned training including computer based and practical.
  •  Assist in public safety education programs or fire prevention programs that may include pre-incident planning, or company fire inspections.
  •  Assist and participate in community events as assigned.
  •  Remain current in continuing education as required by the Department of Health, the Medical Program Director, or Medical Services Officer.
  •  Maintain a working knowledge of the fire department operating guidelines.
  •  Follow City and Department policy and maintain a collaborative, and efficient work environment.
  •  Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively.
  •  Will be required to write reports of various types. Reports shall be clear, concise, factual, and punctual.
  •  Assists in other department activities as assigned.
  •  May instruct classes in assigned subject areas.
  •  Performs general maintenance work in the upkeep of fire facilities and equipment; cleans and washes walls and floors; cares for grounds around station; makes minor repairs; washes, hangs and dries hose; washes, cleans, polishes, maintains and tests apparatus and equipment, and ensure facilities and equipment are ready for immediate emergency response.
  •  Performs salvage operations such as throwing salvage covers, water removal, and removing debris, as needed.
  •  Performs additional related duties as assigned.

Salary Information

2024 Salary Schedule:

Firefighter/EMT: $70,845.36 entry to $101,207.65 top step.

The CPAT must have been conducted within 6 months of application.
