We are now offering a $5,000 hiring bonus for qualified lateral/exceptional entry officers.   The hiring bonus will be paid as follows; $3,000 at time of hire, $1,000 at the 6 month mark, and the remaining $1,000 at the one year mark. 

Community Information

The City of Long Beach is a located in the southwest corner of Washington on the Pacific Coast. The City of Long Beach itself is becoming growing tourist destination. The area has a wide variety of restaurants and attractions for the whole family to enjoy. Some of the other outdoor activities include hiking the Discovery Trail, clam digging, hunting, and fishing. The city is located within a short distance of other coastal communities that offers a variety of shopping and dining establishments.

Department Information

The Long Beach Police Department consist of a Chief, Deputy Chief, Administration Assistant and seven Patrol Officers. The department services the communities of Long Beach and Ilwaco. We currently operate on a four on / four off schedule with 11 hour shifts while some shifts work four on with three days off. Based on this schedule, officers are required to do operational pay back hours which comes out to approximately 6.5 hours per month. OPB hours will be scheduled for training and operational needs of the department.

Salary Information

2024 Pay Scale $5,416.48 to $6,911.55. The starting rate is dependent on the experience of the lateral. Education Incentive pay 2.5% Associate Degree / 5% Bachelor Degree. Officers working between the hours of 1900 and 0600 will received shift differential of $1.00 per hour. $5,000 hiring bonus for laterals/exceptional entry officers. The hiring bonus will be paid as follows; $3,000 at time of hire, $1,000 at the 6 month mark, and the remaining $1,000 at the one year mark. 

Longevity will be based on the amount of LEOFF 2 credits the lateral officer has with their previous departments. Out of state laterals will receive 50% of their years of service as a fully commissioned law enforcement officer. Longevity wage increases are as follows; 5 years =1%, 10 years = 2%, 15 years =3%, and 20 years = 4%.

Basic Law Enforcement Academy Certification

Graduation from an approved law enforcement training academy and ability to meet standards prescribed by the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission for equivalency.

Prior Experience Requirement

Lateral Candidates: Twenty-four (24) months of full-time paid duty as a sworn police officer in a federal, state or local civilian governmental jurisdiction providing general law enforcement services, and be in said position at the time of application, or retain active commission.

Exceptional Entry Candidates: Prior Experience not required, academy certification is required though.
