Important Information

Kittitas County is hiring highly motivated candidates for the position of Jail Deputy. With a rotating schedule between nights and days you will have opportunities to work in all areas of our facility. An Officer in our department can work anywhere at any time, even within the same shift, including intake/booking, supervision of inmates and their movements in the housing units, or inmate transport throughout the facility, to their court appearances, or other appointments as needed. Some work is done individually, but there are also plenty of opportunities to work with others as a team.

Lateral candidates DO NOT need to complete PST testing. Instead, lateral candidates should email civilservice@co.kittitas.wa.us to request an application packet.

Department Information

Sheriff Clay Myers is the newly elected Sheriff of Kittitas County. He began his career with the Sheriff's Office 25 years ago as a Patrol Office. Prior to his appointment as Sheriff after the retirement of Gene Dana, Myers held the role of Undersheriff for 15 years. The Sheriff is responsible for law enforcement, corrections, emergency management, search and rescue, and marine patrol.

Mission statement

The mission of the Kittitas County Sheriff's Office is to protect all people, keep the peace, and uphold the Constitution of the United States.

The Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office consists of 73 sworn positions and 18 civil positions, plus volunteers assisting in numerous aspects throughout the department. The 73 sworn positions include Administrators, Line Deputies, Corrections Officers, Detectives, and Courthouse Security. The civil positions include Law Enforcement Clerks, Control Room Operators, a Fiscal Analyst and a Technologist.

The Sheriff’s Office collaborates with local and state agencies, while the Corrections Center houses for local, state and federal agencies.

As an employee you will receive advancement opportunities, specialized training, and the ability to expand your duties with other assignments. Some of the specialized areas of our department include: Detectives, SRT, Marine Patrol, Forest Patrol, Water Rescue, K-9, Search and Rescue, or being a Field Training Officer in a specific area. Some of the training you will receive includes verbal de-escalation, non-biased policing, crisis intervention, criminal investigation, supervisory, as well as all other in-house job-specific trainings.

The uniqueness of our department allows an Officer to gain experience and knowledge in all areas of corrections duties and tasks. The Kittitas County Corrections Center is overseen by Jail Superintendent Steve Panattoni who encourages hard work, forward thinking, and successful careers for all men and women that work here. Salary Information

Lateral Corrections Officer

$33.95 - $40.57 per hour. Lateral candidates may start at up to $35.35 per month depending on experience and training.

Prior Experience Requirement A Lateral shall be defined as any new lateral hire who has not less than twelve (12) consecutive months of full time, compensated Corrections experience, who successfully completed a probationary period from a recognized law enforcement entity and who has successfully completed a course of Basic Corrections Academy Training, or equivalent, from the Washington State Criminal Justice training Commission, or from another local, State or Federal Law Enforcement Training program recognized by the WSCJTC, and who has not been separated from full time Corrections employment for a period of time greater than twent-four (24) months at the time of application to the Sheriff's Office.
