Kittitas Valley Fire & Rescue is requesting both entry-level and lateral candidates apply!

Interested candidates must complete the written examination via Public Safety Testing to be considered and must  successfully complete (Pass) the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT). If CPAT is completed through PST, your scores are automatically provided to Kittitas Valley Fire & Rescue when you apply. If CPAT is completed through another certified provider, upload proof of non-PST CPAT to your personal PST account. Save the file with this naming convention: "CPAT "

Candidates will be contacted via email once the filing window closes and will be informed about the next steps in the process. We will pull PST scores on October 1st, 2024 at 1000, with an assessment center on October 3rd-4th. You will be notified via email on October 1st, 2024 if you are invited to continue to the assessment center.

Kittitas Valley Fire & Rescue lies in the middle of Washington State within Kittitas County. The service area has a rich history in agriculture and offers many popular recreation opportunities including hiking, fishing, biking, camping and boating. Within the District lies Central Washington University, the cities of Ellensburg and Kittitas, state parks, local parks and numerous agriculture related businesses. 

Department Information

Kittitas Valley Fire & Rescue (KVFR) provides Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to over 1,200 square miles in Kittitas County, Washington. The area extends west to east from Indian John Hill to Vantage, and north to south from Blewett Pass to the Yakima County line. All other response services, including wildland fires, structure fires, and hazardous materials are provided within the District that is approximately 280 sq. mi. The District has twelve (12) fire stations located throughout the service area. Station 29 and Station 21, provide 24-hour career staffing. The remaining stations are strictly staffed with volunteers. In 2020, the District completed building an apparatus maintenance facility and rebuilt Station 21. In 2019, call volume totaled 4,116, with EMS calls representing 85% of the response volume. KVFR provides ALS and BLS patient transfers to hospitals in Seattle, Wenatchee, and Yakima. The District shares boundaries and responds with mutual aid to US Forest Service (USFS), Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Bureau of Land Management (BLM), the Yakima Firing Center (a Department of Defense facility) and Kittitas County Fire Districts #1, #4 and #7.

Salary Information

*Lateral Firefighter/EMT with 12-36 months of Service: $6,659.77/month

*Lateral Firefighter/EMT with 36-60 months of Service: $7,051.52/ month 

First Class Firefighter/EMT and *Lateral Firefighter/EMT with 60+ months of Service: $7,835.03/month 


*Kittitas Valley Fire & Rescue defines a lateral firefighter as a firefighter who is a currently certified EMT-P or EMT-B with more than 12 months of paid fire service experience and has attended an approved fire academy. Both entry-level and lateral firefighters will be hired on a probationary status and serve a twelve-month probationary period from the date of hire.
