The Haines Borough Police Department has multiple testing and hiring cycles, and positions remain open until filled.

After testing, the candidates participate in an oral board interview with Haines Borough Police Department staff before entering the background investigation phase. After the background investigation, conditional job offers are extended, and candidates then complete the hiring process by passing a Computer Voice Stress Analysis (CVSA) and Polygraph, a Psychological Examination, and a Medical Examination.

Community Information

The town-site and borough of Haines, AK (population is approximately 2500 full time residents) is a coastal tourist and fishing community located within the Haines Borough. It lays nestled among the forested mountains of the longest and deepest fjord in North America. Located between the Chilkoot and Chilkat rivers, the area is known for its abundant salmon runs, wildlife, glaciers and jagged mountain peaks. Haines attracts heli-skiers, snowboarders, and extreme snow machine operators from all over the world who come to take advantage of the fantastic mountains surrounding the community. The summer season is marked by festivals, fairs, bike races and other organized activities as well as weekly cruise ships bringing thousands of tourist visitors.

The most beautiful thing about Haines, however, is the people who live here. Haines is home to artists, nature enthusiasts, miners, fishermen and entrepreneurs. Department Information

We are looking for a positive, professional officer to join our team. If you enjoy serving the community and are committed to service and excellence, we would invite you to submit an application. This is a uniformed police position under the general supervision of the Chief of Police and performs a variety of police patrol, investigation and enforcement functions. This position ensures protection of life and property and preservation of peace through enforcement of applicable Federal, State and local laws. HBPD is comprised of the Chief, Sergeant and three patrol officers, as well as five dispatchers/corrections. Officers work closely with Alaska State Troopers, the Alaska Park Rangers, EMS and Fire personnel and other agencies to maintain public safety.

Job Description
