Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One is a progressive, all-hazard, fire district committed to exceptional internal and external customer service. The District serves a growing community of over 56,000 residents from five (5) staffed stations, covering approximately 50 square miles and is made up of 138 full time employees responding to 7,095 calls in 2023. In addition to fire response, the District has an exceptional Medical Division that treats and transports both ALS and BLS patients. The District also has Technical Rescue, Hazardous Materials, and Wildland Firefighting Teams. Job Description

Job Announcement:

Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One is creating an eligibility list for the position of Entry-Level Firefighter. We anticipate hiring 3-6 Firefighters from this list in January 2025.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

· Must be at least 18 years of age.

· High School graduate or equivalent (GED).

· Valid Driver License and able to obtain WA State Driver License within 30 days of hire.

· Must be tobacco and marijuana free at time of pre-employment screening.

· Complete the Public Safety Testing (PST) requirements as listed below.

HOW TO APPLY

GHFMO will be utilizing Public Safety Testing (PST) to obtain candidate information. Test scores will be pulled on or about July 31, 2024.

· Must have completed the Public Safety Testing (PST) written exam and CPAT test between August 1, 2023 - July 31, 2024, and have completed the Personal History Statement (PHS).

· A valid CPAT is required and will be accepted from other certifying agencies such as the National Testing Network. Do not send CPAT certification until requested.

· Sign Up for GHFMO from the agency listing on the PST website.

· Candidates selected to move forward will be asked to submit application materials.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

· Must successfully pass the pre-employment screening process.

· Must successfully pass a Firefighter academy.

· Must successfully pass EMT course and obtain EMT certification.

· Must successfully complete a 18-month probationary period.

CRIMINAL DISQUALIFIERS

· Any felony, misdemeanor, domestic violence, or sexual misconduct convictions may result in disqualification.

RECRUITMENT/HIRING PROCESS

The recruitment process will be August – October 2024 and will include the following steps for candidates invited to move forward in the process:

· Mid-August First interview (virtual)

· Mid-September Second interview (in-person)

· End of September Conditional offer and pre-employment screening

· End of October Final offers extended after successful completion of pre-employment screenings

· January 2025 Anticipated start

Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One is hiring 3-6 entry level Firefighter/EMT's, with an anticipated start date in January 2025.  An entry level firefighter eligibility list will also be established.  PST testing information will be requested on July 31, 2024.  

  • Entry level firefighter/EMT -  Eligible candidates will have completed Public Safety Testing's written and CPAT tests and the personal history statement.  Candidates who are selected to move forward in the hiring process will receive an email with instructions to submit application materials.

CPAT - we will accept valid CPAT certifications from other certifying agencies such as the National Testing Network. Proof of certification will be requested when candidates are invited to move forward in our hiring process. 

EMT - must be able to obtain EMT certification within one year of hire.

Salary Information

2024 Entry Level Firefighter (FF1): $80,368.92 - $114,812.76 annually DOQ

2025 Entry Level Firefighter: 2024 FF1 wage, plus 100% CPI-U, Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue, June 2023-June 2024 (minimum of 2% and maximum of 6%) will be added to the FF1 wage, as per CBA.
