***Lateral and Exceptional Entry should apply on the City of Fircrest website. Applicants start the process in the oral board stage. Field Training is shortened and starting pay is adjusted, depending upon experience.***

The City of Fircrest is located in West Pierce County and is tucked between Tacoma and University Place. The mission of the Fircrest Police Department is to work in partnership with the community to protect life and property and to enhance the quality of life in our City through proactive problem solving, fair and equitable law enforcement, and effective use of patrol, traffic enforcement, investigations, crime prevention, emergency response, narcotics, vice-related activities, safety programs, and special services. The City of Fircrest Police Department is comprised of 10 commissioned officers including the Chief of Police (1), Patrol Sergeants (2), Patrol Officers (6), Detective (1).

Hiring Status

The deadline to test for the next hiring cycle is July 15, 2025.

The eligibility list is a continuous listing and maintained as scores are received from PST with oral board interviews conducted on an as-needed basis. Open positions are filled from the current Civil Service eligibility list using the Rule of 3. Candidates will be referred to the appointing authority (City Clerk) for a background investigation and selection, as vacancies occur.

Salary Information

$6,813 (Step A, starting salary*) - $8,696 per month + Excellent Benefits (2024 rates). (*May start at other than Step A, depending on experience and qualifications.) Benefits include longevity pay, compensatory time, education incentive pay, medical and dental benefits, and take-home vehicle if within a 21-mile radius. 12-hour shifts for the first three workdays and the fourth workday is always a ten-hour shift. 4 days on and 4 days off.
