Community Information

The City of Enumclaw is located in Western Washington in South King County. Enumclaw is roughly 1 hour from Seattle, Crystal Mountain and Mt. Rainier. The City boundary spans 5 square miles and is surrounded by farmland and the Cascade Foothills.

Department Information

The Enumclaw Police Department currently has 36 full time employees with 19 Commissioned Officers. The City also has its own jail with a staff of 7 Corrections Officers and a Communications / 911 center with a staff of 7 Communications Specialists. The Department’s Patrol Officer is under the supervision of the Patrol Sergeant and the Operation Services Manager. Patrol Officer’s provide 7/24 response to all calls for service including both emergency and non-emergency reports of crime, criminal activity, and related incidents. Responsibilities include maintaining the public peace, ensuring safety and security of individuals and property, prevention of crime through proactive and initiated activities, and conduct appropriate investigations. Uniformed Enumclaw Police Officers are generalist in that they provide full service preliminary investigations, follow up as needed to complete cases worked, make the appropriate arrest(s) and present the case to the prosecutor for filing. Additional activities include coordination of crime scenes, evidence collection, report writing, crime photography, court testimony and all associated responsibilities of law enforcement services standard as a first responder.

Job Description

To provide a professional level of core police services using law enforcement’s best practices and industry standards for the application of law enforcement emergency and non-emergency response to calls for service, incidents, and request for assistance. To assure that the systems and processes in place are relative to the chosen values, principles and philosophies deemed effective towards quality services.

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The ability to follow the best practices and industry standards associated with the uniformed law enforcement position responsibilities.
  • To ensure that all uniformed law enforcement services conducted are within the legal guidelines and accepted law enforcement Practices.
  • The ability to work in conjunction with outside agencies and representatives in a professional manner.
  • The ability to create and maintain a positive, constructive work environment and promote harmonious working relations among unit members and department personnel.
  • To ensure the proper steps are followed for professional case management.
  • To provide for the continual safety, security, order, care, and program activities of the police officer and their response to calls for service, incidents, and law enforcement services in general.
  • Responsible for the daily operations of systems, records, and legal documents as they pertain to the operation, policies, guidelines and maintenance of the police facility and community responses.
  • Ability to investigate reports of crime and crime scene preservation while performing all functions related to evidence collection, preservation of evidence and documentation for court presentations.
  • To provide for the legal arrest and incarceration of those responsible for committing crime including appropriate and professional interviews and interrogations in accordance with accepted law enforcement practices.
  • The ability to conduct searches for persons and property in accordance with accepted law enforcement practices.
  • The ability to perform traffic investigations, traffic enforcement and traffic control as necessary and appropriate.
  • To possess knowledge of known criminals and issues affecting the community’s quality of life issues.
  • The ability to respond to calls for service and other activities as assigned.
  • The ability to respond to emergency incidents with other first responders including, but not limited to, Fire and Medical personnel when and where appropriate.
  • To use restraint and force as necessary and in accordance with department policies, procedures, guidelines, and within the laws and regulations of law enforcement’s best practices.
  • To provide proactive patrols and visibility to all areas of the community. To be proactive in schools, community groups, businesses, and the public.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police.

Salary Information

2024: $6,907 - $8,816 /month.

6 salary steps. Starting position dependent on experience.

Base salary does not include scheduled overtime, holiday pay, educational incentive, longevity pay, $200/mo VEBA contribution and $1,000 yearly uniform allowance.
