Colfax is the County seat of Whitman County, and is located about 14 miles north of Pullman / WSU and 60 miles south of Spokane on highway 195. Colfax is an agriculture community, in an area of rolling hills with dryland hillside wheat, barley and legume farming. Colfax has agriculture business and manufacturing, a retail business district, government offices and service firms of accountants and lawyers. Colfax is home to impressive rural health care services, centered on Whitman Hospital and Medical Center, a large doctors clinic, nursing home, assisted living facilities and a congregate care facility. Through the Hospital and clinic, a wide range of medical specialists serves the area. Colfax enjoys a minimal rate of violent crime, and low rates of serious crime and drug problems. The community still has an air of country life and trust. The Police Department's goal is to keep that feeling among the citizens while dealing with the crime and problems of modern society. The school system is considered to be excellent, and there are many houses and building lots available to new residents.

The City of Colfax is located in eastern Washington in Whitman County. The Police Department is a five officer Department with a Chief and four officers. Uniforms and equipment are provided by the Department. Salary Information

Entry level: $4,044 month.

With experience, DOQ, can be placed higher on the scale. Time in grade step raises, extending for 6 years. Merit pay scale after 2 years is available for specialized functions. Longevity pay after 10 years.
