The Cle Elum Police Department covers the towns of Cle Elum and Roslyn serving a population of approximately 3,200 residents.

Department Information

The Cle Elum/Roslyn Police Department is compiling an eligibility list for both laterals and entry level officers. The Police Department serves two communities in the Upper Kittitas County. If you are looking to live in a small-town community where a quality of life offers four seasons of tremendous recreational activities such as hiking, biking, hunting, fishing, snow mobile and horseback riding, and all within an hour’s drive of Seattle, come visit Cle Elum and you will soon see why we are called the Heart of the Cascades.

The Cle Elum Police Department has 10 commissioned Officers, one Reserve Officer, Animal Control Officer and two Administration staff. Officers enjoy several benefits to include medical, dental, vision, VEBA, longevity pay, and incentive pay for: Education, Bilingual, EMT, Evidence Technician, DRE, Defensive Tactics Instructor, Taser Instructor and Physical Fitness. The base pay is $5209 - $6330 DOE. Medical benefits are offered after retirement at a significantly reduced rate for the employee and their spouse through the union. 

Take home patrol cars are available for Officers living within a 35 mile radius of city limits. Officers belong to Teamsters Local Union #760. Patrol Officers work a 10 hour 40 minute schedule: 5 ON 4 OFF 5 ON 4 OFF 5 ON 5 OFF. 

For Laterals, previous years of service count towards longevity and vacation hours.

Salary Information

$5209 - $6330 per month with a 10% increase in 2024 7% in 2025 and 7% in 2026 plus additional incentives for Longevity, Education, Bilingual, EMT, Evidence Technician, DRE, Defensive Tactics Instructor, Taser Instructor and Physical Fitness. Years of service are considered for laterals for their step increases. Step increases are annual and are 1-5. Take home vehicles are provided within 35 miles of city limits.

Benefit Information

Teamster medical, dental, and vision covered for the officer and their family at no extra cost. A VEBA stipend is also provided by the city to help offset any medical costs. Officers participate in an enhanced retirement through the Teamsters for a supplemental retirement in addition to state LEOFF retirment.
