Your PST-administered written exam must be completed by January 11, 2025

You must have successfully passed a Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) conducted by Public Safety Testing (PST) or National Testing Network (NTN) within the last 12 months and, if conducted by NTN, you must provide proof of certification when submitting your formal application packet to South Kitsap Fire & Rescue (do not submit proof to PST).

You must send proof of NTN CPAT and  a completed South Kitsap Fire and Rescue application either by mail (ATTN: Alyssa Bass) or via email to abass@skfr.org by 1600 on January 11, 2025.

Community Information

South Kitsap Fire and Rescue serves an estimated population of 75,018 citizens and is governed by a board of five (5) elected Fire Commissioners who focus on the needs of the community and progressively set the policy and direction for the district at large. The Fire District covers approximately 118 square miles in the Port Orchard and surrounding communities. The headquarters station, located in the Orchard Heights neighborhood, is the central office for the district’s Administrative Division and management team. The Fire Chief and two Deputy Chiefs oversee three division Chiefs, and office staff.

Department Information

South Kitsap Fire and Rescue employs 9 Engine Companies, 1 Ladder Company, 4 Medic Units and 6 Aid Units. The Operations Division includes the coordination of our paid staff of 112 and also utilizes over 50 volunteer firefighters. These personnel are stationed throughout the district at one of the six 24-hour staffed stations and six volunteer stations. As South Kitsap Fire and Rescue prepares for its future, our goal is to provide the most effective and efficient level of service possible within the limits of our available resources. The settings for these stations include waterfront, urban, suburban and truck communities.

The deadline to test for the next hiring cycle is January 11, 2025.

South Kitsap Fire and Rescue will be hiring 15 new hires to start March, 2025 . Conditional offers of employment will include successfully passing a driver’s background check, criminal background check, background investigation, psychological exam,  and medical exam to include drug testing.


Salary Information

Firefighter wage range is Entry FF $6,939.64 per month, depending on qualifications, plus benefits.

Benefit Information

Health Care: WFCA PPO Plus plan, the District will pay 100% of the employee’s premium costs and 97% premiums costs for employee’s eligible insured dependents.

Kelly Days: 16 Kelly days per year.

Vacation: 12 hours per month (increases with years of service).

Sick leave: 9 days per year.
